Belatchew Arkitekter, Stockholm, Sweden, attempted a distinct approach through the Straw scraper concept, that proposes transforming the Söder Torn developing in Stockholm into an urban wind farm by covering it with Piezoelectric fibers. Initially the Söder Torn building was proposed for 40 stories,but building was halted in 1997 at only 25 floors. Belatchew Labs,a studio inside Belatchew Arkitekter, aims to supply space for additional residences and also to convert the new sections into an urban wind farm. The concept entails covering most of the constructing with thin straws consisting of versatile polymers and a core of piezoelectric materials.The straws on swaying in the wind would produce mechanical anxiety that would produce an electric charge. The energy generated shall be employed for the building and the surrounding location.
