The Penthouse Duplex at The Metropole in Washington, DC is an art-filled, contemporary dream residence which was innovatively renovated by FORMA Style.
What was after a rather closed-off duplex is now a spacious and airy dwelling with abundant light and storage. A major method was to open up the second level to create an airy L-shaped loft space by combining two bedrooms into 1, while leaving it exposed to the adjoining study. Rather of becoming hidden behind drywall, the sleeping and work regions are now open to the downstairs living room, featuring a cable railing along the balcony so as not to block views of the city or the continuous organic light filtering in through the double-story windows. Dark wood floors are a handsome contrast to the light coffee-hued ceilings, which contribute an general richness to this space and the ones under.
The owners’ collection of modern art required to be highlighted, so suspension lighting was placed throughout. After extraordinary fixture is the hand-blown glass pendant which resembles a sculptural atom and is a stand-out design function hovering over the apartment from the second floor off the study zone.
Carved limestone walls seem in living areas and the bedroom, even though pale oak cabinetry was added for storage upstairs and downstairs, generating additional continuity. Walls were left stark white to best showcase the numerous functions of art. Painted white ductwork is exposed, lending a touch of industrial edge to the sleek, modern ambiance.
What is such a stellar notion is the mix-and-match living room seating. The black-and-white print modular sofas are not only fabulous to look at, but functional in that they can be moved about according to entertaining needs–or just mood. Adore it!
Sunny yellow accent tables enliven the space, even though herringbone marble floors play nicely with the patterned sofas. This eclectic location greets the open kitchen, which functions a white-topped island set with 4 stools, as effectively as a separate dining nook which is fully glazed. A complete-sized, built-in wine refrigerator is a nice addition to the streamlined oak cabinetry.
Fantastically exhibiting art, the Penthouse Duplex is a modern day dream apartment which underwent an imaginative redesign to add light, storage and verve.
