Michael Robbins has located a novel way to minimize waste. The New York furniture maker has fashioned a choice of rolling pins created from the fine woods—walnut, maple and sycamore, amongst others—left over from the tables, chairs and lamps he crafts at his Hudson Valley studio. The rolling pins are neither uniform in size—lengths are contingent upon the size of the wood scrap—or shape. Says Robbins, “I have some shorter pins that might be good for pastries a longer, thinner a single I picture would be good for pasta and some heavier, thicker pins that are very good for pizza crust.”
